What Intuition Really Is And How You Can Develop It

Last week on The Passion Project, Sunil Godse, CEO of Intuitionology, schooled Kira and me on intuition

It’s been seen as one of those woo things reserved for weirdos and mystics, but it’s becoming more mainstream as many leaders have come out as basing million-dollar decisions off this stuff.

Try thinking about it like this…

Your mind has direct access to a relatively limited data set at any given time, while your body has access to your entire lifetime of data. Intuition is your body sending you signals before your mind has caught on. Everyone has intuition, you just have to develop that sense and understand your unique signals.

What Does Your Home Say About You?

I highly recommend checking out the replay here – Sunil has boiled intuition down to a science!

I credit following my own intuition as the reason why I’m living the life I am today…

✅ Doing meaningful, creative work that energizes me

✅ Partnering with interesting people that I love and respect

✅ In control of my time and spending it with my favorite people

To get to this point though, I had to mess up A LOT in extremely painful ways. I stayed in relationships and jobs for years too long, while continuing to put off starting my own company. My breaking point came with declining mental and physical health and I had no other choice but to start listening to my intuition.

The Beauty On The Other Side of Grief

In mid-2019, I went to Toronto for a conference and to hang with Kira Day, whom I met on Linkedin in 2017. At the time, I was involved in the environmental realm and she was building The Passion Centre and conducting studies on her work, but what we were talking about was so similar. We were baffled by society’s inclination to only address symptoms rather than address the root issues. We were obsessed with getting to the root of the problems that we were trying to solve.

We both realized that if we wanted to see real change in the world, it wasn’t the outward conditions that needed to change – it was the inward conditions of humans.

How to Stop Feeling Guilty and Start Believing in Yourself

To paraphrase Gandhi:

If you want to change the world, change yourself

During our time together, we both had the same undeniable feeling or intuition that we were meant to build something together but had no idea what that looked like. Fast forward to the summer of 2020 when everything fell into place to make that happen. By October 2020, Kira had brought me and a few other people into The Passion Centre and we’ve been building it ever since.

Here’s how you can start to develop your own intuition:

  • Clear out any mental and emotional junk that keeps your mind from clarity
  • Meditate or have quiet time every day (mornings work really well for me)
  • Think back on the times that you ignored that “gut feeling” or that little voice and things turned out badly, journal on that. How did your body feel? Where did you feel it? There are usually multiple signals, we’re just bad at listening sometimes.
  • Think back on the times that you followed that voice or “gut feeling” and it worked out and journal on that. What was your signal? Was it a voice? Was it a dream? Maybe a coincidence?

What are some of your experiences following or not following your intuition? Let me know in the comments ???

PS – At The Passion Centre, we have a couple of spots left in our first class and are about to begin enrolling for our second group. If you’re interested in learning more and joining the Passion-Based™ Incubator, jump on a strategy call. Just shoot me a message!
