Russian President Vladimir Putin, along with Syrian leader Bashar el Assad, walked through the streets of Old Damascus and entered the Grand Mosque, Syrian President Bashar el Assad’s press service said. Putin, among other things, visited the tomb of St. John the Baptist (Yahya), also visited Salahudin’s tomb.
The presidents were accompanied by the two countries’ defense ministers, Sergei Shoigu and Ali Ayub. The President also enrolled in the book of impressions.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Putin donated the Quran from the seventeenth century to the Grand Mosque.
