Elon Musk’s SpaceX has acquired two semi-submersible drilling rigs from offshore driller Valaris, with plans to convert them into floating launch pads for its Starship rocket.
8500 and Valaris 8501 built-in 2009 to Lone Star Mineral Development, a SpaceX subsidiary, for a bargain of $ 3.5 million each last year after the offshore platform operator filed for chapter 11.

Both platforms have been renamed Deimos and Phobos respectively.
The spacecraft is a rocket that SpaceX is developing with the goal of launching cargo and up to 100 people at a time on missions to the Moon and Mars. 40 to 440 a team of engineers and technicians to design and build an operational offshore rocket launch facility.
