The German city of Cologne is once again the capital for furniture manufacturers from all over the world. More than 12,000 exhibitors from around 50 countries are displaying their products from Monday to Sunday at the prestigious Furniture Fair, which sets new trends.
From Bosnia and Herzegovina, 16 companies are present at this prestigious fair. By the way, BiH has been a regional leader for many years when it comes to the number of exhibitors at the fair. For comparison, only four exhibitors are present from Serbia this year and five from Croatia.
Foreign Trade Chamber’s Lejla Medjedovic said that at this year’s BiH appearance at the Cologne Fair, she is fulfilling a decade of dedicated work and cooperation between the company, chamber, institutions, foreign partners and local designers on the way to the return and affirmation of the BiH furniture industry in the EU market.
“At the end of the decade, we can say that we have succeeded. A total of 40 companies have presented themselves at the booth of BiH. A number of companies have developed their own strategies and are exhibiting independently at these and other world fairs. We hope that BiH furniture will continue to have its own position in an increasingly turbulent environment in this competitive market, “Mededovic said.
The absolute trend this year is wood furniture. Such products just dominate the offer of BiH. firms.
German furniture manufacturers have sold less furniture in the past year than in 2018. According to the German Furniture Manufacturers Association, the furniture industry in the most developed European country finished the business year 2019 with a total turnover of 18 billion euros, 0.6 percent less than in 2018.
The reason for the decline in sales of German furniture is not in the well-known Scandinavian design or cheap furniture from China. The reason is that more and more people have less space in which to live. Therefore, the furniture must be functional and, in view of the price, acceptable for everyone’s pocket.
