President Trump’s news conference is brought to an abrupt stop. The president had been speaking less than 3 minutes. He returned about 8 minutes later: “There was a shooting outside of the White House”.
The Secret Service removed President Trump from the White House Briefing Room minutes after he began a coronavirus briefing. The president returned nearly 10 minutes later saying the Secret Service shot someone outside of the White House. According to President Trump that person had been taken to the hospital. While taking questions from reporters he said he was considering holding the annual G-7 meeting after the presidential election in November, because it would be a “better atmosphere.” Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin joined the briefing and said he expected enhanced unemployment checks could be sent out within the next two weeks. He also said he had not spoken to the House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) or Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) since negotiations ended the previous week.
