Elon Musk’s SpaceX buys Valaris rigs to build floating launch pads

Elon Musk’s SpaceX has acquired two semi-submersible drilling rigs from offshore driller Valaris, with plans to convert them into floating launch pads for its Starship rocket.

8500 and Valaris 8501 built-in 2009 to Lone Star Mineral Development, a SpaceX subsidiary, for a bargain of $ 3.5 million each last year after the offshore platform operator filed for chapter 11.
